How to Floss your Teeth Correctly

Video Transcript

Hi, my name’s Abbey. I’m one of the dental hygienist here at Fullarton Park Dental.

I’ve spent a lot of time talking to patients about the importance of flossing.

Flossing is important because it removes bacteria in between the teeth, that sometimes a toothbrush can’t reach to.

Now, using the correct flossing technique is really important, that we remove bacteria effectively but we don’t damage the gums in the meantime.

I’m going to show you how floss effectively and correctly.

So, you’re wanting to allow yourself a big long piece of floss, use your middle finger, to wrap the floss around, nice and gently, and now you have your thumb and your index finger free to move the floss around your mouth.

Now, when you floss, you’re wanting to push the floss in between the teeth gently, then wrap it around the side of one tooth, up and down slide motion, and just below the gum.

Then pull back out.

Now what you’re wanting to do, is do the same thing, on the other side.

So slide the floss down, wiggle backwards and forwards gently, avoiding that see-saw action, and then up.

So I’ll show you that again.

Down one side, and up.

So we’ll show you that a bit quicker.

So if you’ve got any questions, just comment below, or give the practice a call on 8272-5271.

Thank you, hope you liked my video.
